I actually started
singing when I was only 3 years old. I started playing guitar when I was 7 years
old. My Dad had a family band that I always kind of hung around with and played
my guitar off to side or in the background on the stage. I always was wanting to
learn new things on the guitar. Over the next couple years I spent a lot time
with different lead guitar players that Dad would have in the band. When I was
almost 12 years old, I started playing lead guitar. I performed with several
bands in my home state of Ohio until I was 25. I decided I wanted more of a
musical challenge so, I moved to Nashville Tennessee.
I moved to
Nashville in 1985. I soon found myself working in clubs around the Nashville
area, doing demo sessions for songwriters in various studios and playing on the
road. Although, I never made it “big” so to speak, I have a lot of great
memories of some of the musical greats that I have worked with over the years.
Musicians such as: Bernie Watruba, Bruce Bouton, Willie Rainsford, Buddy Emmons,
Neil Worf and the list goes on of all the different musicians I have either
worked with or met and just chatted with. That’s the fun part about the music
business. Over the years, I have been in bands that have either backed or opened
shows for such artists as: Mel McDaniels, Bellamy Brothers, Terri Gibbs, Ronnie
McDowell, Johnny Paycheck, Boxcar Willie, David Wills, Dean Dillion, Ricky
Nelson, Johnny Rodrigius, Asleep at the Wheel, Bobby Bare, Susan Raye, Nat
Stuckey and others. Along with the list above, some of my musical influences
are: George Jones, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill, Brent Mason, Patty Loveless, Eric
Clapton and Bud Gregory.
Recently, long time friend, Mike Bradford and I have put together a new band after being idle for a couple of years. We called up another long time friend, Glenn Adams on piano and along with Charlotte Lucas on bass and Vocals, Phyllis Crownover as our female vocalist and Ronnie Crownover on the steel guitar, we have formed “The Runnin’ Kind. The band is very unique, we do all cover tunes, some old COUNTRY tunes with a new twist, new COUNTRY with our own taste added and occasionally we do some old time rock n roll tunes. They’re all great musicians and just more names I can add to my list of GREATS.
